The Apple world with its tools
Before knowing how to locate not an android but an iOS, let's see what your iPhone is made of and who created it.
What is an iOS?
As its name suggests, the IOS (meaning "iphone Operator system") is the operating system dedicated to iPhones. The IOS was created by an Apple team led by Scott Forstall during a competition between macintosh and ipod in order to reproduce a phone with the same applications. No need to go into details explaining how an OS works, the operating system is simply the brain of the device. It represents thousands of lines of code to operate and control all the small components of the iPhone.
The iOS was born in 2008 and now has 13 versions. It embeds with it basic applications that can be found on all iPhones, Macs, iPods and iPads such as iTunes, Map, Message, Photo, Safari and many others that are essential. There is also the "Locate my iPhone" application which, via your icloud account, offers a lot of interesting features that we will see a little later in this article.
Apple
Apple is an American telephone, software and electronics industry that started in a garage in 1976. Today it is one of the largest American companies following a faultless track record. Apple represents the technological evolution of the beginning of the 21st century by offering the general public new products such as the iPhone and iPad released in 2007 and 2010. The operating system that Apple has created today offers many features including geolocation which will not work the same way as the iPhone and iPad.
Why do we need to locate an iPhone?
Locate a loved one
It is interesting to know the position of a phone if you want to find the location of a relative. For example, if you find yourself with your family or friends in Disneyland Park, it may be interesting to have an application here to know the location of each one to avoid calling each other all day long.
You can also locate a relative to reassure yourself. A typical case is that of children. Many parents want to know their child's GPS location at all times.
Locating and recovering a stolen iPhone
In most cases, we want to locate a phone that has just been stolen or is suspected of being stolen. This can happen to anyone but what is certain is that the quicker you act, the better chance you have of finding your iPhone. If your phone falls into the hands of a seasoned thief, he will make sure to remove your sim card and then reset the phone. From that point on, you'll have little chance of finding it.
Finding your lost iPhone
Who hasn't lost their Apple device? Luckily, you lose your phone most of the time in the house, in which case there is a good chance you will find it by calling you or with the "Locate my iPhone" application.

The Locate my iPhone application
To locate an iOS phone with this application, you must first have a connected iCloud account and have authorized the application to use location services. If you haven't already done so, please go to your iPhone settings, scroll down to find the application and then click on it.
Once everything is set up correctly, use icloud.com/find with your Apple credentials to try to locate your device under iOS.
If by chance you haven't set up the application, look at third party sites/software such as geo-live.mobi which locates your phone using your mobile number.
Available features of the Locate my iPhone application
As mentioned before, if you have an icloud account logged in and you have enabled the functionality of the application, you will be able to choose between :
- Lost mode : to lock your phone remotely.
- Ring : In case you have lost your phone in the house, make it ring with this option to try to find it with the sound emitted from your iPhone.
- History : This feature allows you to locate your iPhone with the GPS system.
- Clear Device : If you have important data on your iPhone, use this option to clear the data from your device. Please note that the data will not be saved to the iCloud if it has not already been done.
With the application you will also be able to view your trip history since it will remember your trips if you activate the option.
Finding a lost or stolen iphone without the Locate my iPhone application
There are software and applications available to help you locate your device from Apple. These include geolive.mobi or geo-live.mobi which are both paid services but give you an extra chance to find your iPhone.
The other option that is not negligible is to search by yourself, turn back, walk the streets or do a good housekeeping in your house. It's a good idea to contact people you've recently seen to ask them if they've seen it.
